Who We Are

Post hospital support for Burns patients is sparse in the UK and this is fully acknowledged by the medical profession. BUGS was set up to provide this support to all current and former patients and their families, who may or may not have been treated at Salisbury District Hospital. In this region the support offered by BUGS is the only befriending support of its kind.

BUGS is based at Salisbury District Hospital Burns Unit and serves a large regional area, from Swindon in the north down to Southampton, Portsmouth, Weymouth and across to the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. We are funded solely through charitable donations and run by lay and staff volunteers.

What We Do

Patients are supported in hospital by visits and emergency packs on arrival. After discharge friendship, encouragement and practical information for ex-patients and their families is offered.

Our website and Facebook page aims to provide links to helpful organisations and information of relevance to burn survivors and their families.

Our main activities include providing:

  • Essential toiletries for inpatients
  • Patient information
  • Funding for children and young adults to attend burn camps
  • Emotional Wellbeing via the Engage Project
  • Funding
