New development plans

Following the purchase of the 5.5 hectare plot of land next to Great Western Hospital back in 2021, plans are underway which will allow us to further develop our services by moving some of them out of the main building.

Following a strong and competitive tender process, we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Prime UK, who will act as our developer partner to help us secure investment to build new facilities and services on the Trust’s expansion land. 

The initial plans include a staff and student accommodation block, a sterile services unit and a private patients unit.

The expansion land, located on the south side of the hospital site, will also allow space for a future health campus which could include a rehabilitation facility or mental health unit.

Moving some services out of the main hospital and onto the expansion land means additional clinical capacity could be freed up in the main hospital too. 

By integrating commercial and development expertise with NHS priorities, we can further improve the hospital estate’s functionality and patient and staff experience, whilst still ensuring local people continue to be able to access free healthcare.
