About us

We offer a comprehensive service relating to conditions of the face, neck, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment, diagnosis and treatment for common oral surgical conditions.

Our consultants treat a range of conditions, including facial injuries, head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial deformities, facial pain, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws, as well as mouth ulcers and infections.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons frequently work alongside other specialists including orthodontists, oncologists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons and ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeons.

Emergencies

We offer an emergency service during the week (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm).

You can be referred for emergencies such as:

  • Facial swelling
  • Cuts or lacerations
  • Fractures of the face or eye socket
  • Bleeding after surgery
  • Dry socket

Information for referrers

Please ensure that the referral guidelines approved by the South West MCN for Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine are followed.

Referrals should be submitted electronically from a secure nhs.net email address to gwh.omfs@nhs.net with a full medical history and all relevant radiographs.

Radiographs should be sent as native digital images and we respectfully request that they are not printed out and scanned. It is preferable to submit the referral as a single file by pasting the radiographs in at the end of the referral form in Word.

Referrals regarding soft tissue lesions should be accompanied by a clinical photograph.
