Contraception

The Swindon Sexual Health Service is only able to provide contraception for patients who live in or have a GP in Swindon or Wiltshire. Exceptions to this are (i.e. we will see you wherever you live):

• Patients who are under 18
• Patients who, following unprotected sex, need the emergency contraceptive pill or an emergency coil. 

We provide the following contraception services, however where possible we encourage you to approach your GP in the first instance:

• Discussion about contraceptive options
• New or repeat supplies of contraceptive pills or patches – Find a pharmacy that offers the contraceptive pill without a prescription
• New or repeat contraceptive injection
• Routine coil insertion or exchange
• Routine coil removal
• Routine implant insertion / exchange / removal
• Complex coil insertion / exchange or removal and complex implant removal – referral from a GP is required
• Problem with coil – please see your GP first if they fitted your coil
• Problem with implant – please see your GP first if they fitted your implant

We are unable to provide contraception for gynaecological reasons (e.g. treatment of heavy periods, endometriosis or for HRT), and we are unable to exchange your hormonal coil (Mirena or Levosert) early (before the end of the eight year contraception license) for gynaecological reasons.

We also do not offer sterilisation services (e.g. female sterilisation and male vasectomy).
